La collection regroupe 52 lettres privées rédigées en 1757 par des habitants du Labourd, une province du Pays Basque située près de Bayonne et Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Destinées principalement à des résidents de Louisbourg (Canada), ces lettres abordent principalement des nouvelles personnelles et constituent un témoignage précieux de l'état de la langue de ce parler au XVIIIe siècle.
Abstract
A summary of the resource.
Les divers expéditeurs des villes comme Bayonne, Hendaye, Saint-Jean-de-Luz informent les récipiendaires de la santé de la famille et les conseillent de bien gérer leurs biens, tout en avertissant des risques liés aux prises de guerre des Anglais. Ils leur communiquent aussi la réception de correspondances et des lettres de change, exprimant l'espoir de les revoir bientôt. Ils expriment parfois leur situation financière très difficile et demandent plus de nouvelles, marquant leur déception de ne pas recevoir de lettres de leur part.
