Cette déclaration sous serment contient des informations capitales, le capitaine de la prise, et combien de documents et de lettres étaient à bord du navire Le Dauphin.
Résumé
Charles Brett, résidant à Portsmouth, atteste sous serment avoir reçu et transmis à la commission d'examen tous les documents saisis à bord du navire français Le Dauphin, capturé par les navires de guerre de Sa Majesté Britannique. Ce commissaire indique que le navire français est arrivé à Portsmouth le 14 avril 1757. A bord, Francis Geary, Esquire Commander, du vaisseau de guerre anglais HMS Somerset a trouvé 227 papiers et écrits. Il les a numéroté de 1 à 227, afin de pouvoir être cités comme preuves lors du jugement. Ces documents furent remis au commissaire John Greenway.

On the Taking the French Merchant Ship with a Commission of War called Le Dauphin by His Britannic Majesty's Ships of War the Somerset Devonshire and Rochester
Charles Brett of Portsmouth in the County of Southampton Esquire maketh Oath That on or about the fourteenth day of april instant the Master's Mate of His Majesty's Ship Somerset who commanded the said French Prize after she was taken brought (accompanied with a Letter from Captain Geary Commander of the said ship Somerset addressed to this Deponent) the several Papers and Writings by him this Deponent exhibited to Mr John Greenway the Commissioner acting in the preparatory Examinations on this Capture respectively marked from no.(1) to no.(227) inclusive relating to the said French Prize Ship which Papers and Writings are left by this Deponent with the said Commissioner in order to be transmitted to the Judge of the High Court of Admiralty of England And this Deponent saith That the said exhibited Papers and Writings are all the Sea Briefs Charterparties Bills of Lading Documents and other Writings relating to the said French Prize Ship which he this Deponent (to the best of his Knowledge and Belief) hath ever received from any Person or Persons whomsoever And were so exhibited by him this Deponent in the same Plight and Condition as when by him received without any Fraud Subduction Addition or Imbezlement whatsoever.
